Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 25 minutes
Total time: 30 minutes
Ingredients
- One bottle (750 mL) of red wine – I use cabernet
- One peeled and sliced orange
- Peel from the orange – sliced into strips
- 1/4 cup of Cointreau
- 1 bag dried fruit
- 8 cloves
- 8 anise stars
- 1/3 cup honey (you can use sugar)
- 3 cinnamon sticks (and more for garnish)
Directions
To make the picture-perfect cup of mulled wine, combine all ingredients in a large pot. Gradually warm the ingredients on low to medium heat (do not let it boil). Let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently to make sure the honey/sugar has dissolved. When the wine is steaming and smelling wonderfully, your whole house will smell like Christmas. Once the ingredients are blended, it is ready to drink! Pour the wine into mugs, and leave all the seasonings in the pot. Put a cinnamon stick in each cup and some orange peel for flavor, and enjoy!
** The 1/3 cup of honey or sugar makes this a sweet wine; if you would rather have something that is not so sweet, use less honey or sugar.
